PDO Mono Threads tighten and thicken the dermis of your skin, and improve fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production. It’s a non-surgical alternative for skin tightening and improved texture.

The process is gradual and will increase its effects over a few months, however some patients see a noticeable change within a few weeks.

The cost is variable, however, treatment of a single area generally costs from $350 at the Glebe Cosmetic Clinic.

How it works

Short, non-barbed threads are inserted into the skin in a mesh-like pattern. Upon entering the skin, the threads begin to activate collagen synthesis for skin rejuvenation and skin tightening.

An average of 10 to 30 PDO Mono Threads are generally used for each treatment area and are minimally invasive. The threads will slowly dissolve however the results will last for 6 – 12 months.

PDO (Polydioxanone) Mono Threads are short, smooth, dissolvable sutures used to improve skin texture and firmness. Unlike “thread lifts” that mechanically pull the skin, Mono Threads are inserted in a mesh-like pattern under the dermis. They act as a scaffold to stimulate your body’s natural collagen production, gradually thickening the skin and smoothing fine lines over several months.

This treatment is highly versatile and can be used on both the face and body. Common areas include the forehead, cheeks, jawline, and neck to address skin laxity. It is also an effective option for treating fine lines around the eyes or mouth, and can even be used on the abdomen or arms to support skin rejuvenation.

After a thorough consultation to assess suitability, the treatment area is cleansed. A series of fine needles are used to place the threads (typically 10 to 30 threads per area). While some discomfort may be felt, a topical anaesthetic or cooling methods are used to manage this. The procedure generally takes between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the complexity of the area.

The threads themselves slowly dissolve over approximately six months. However, because the treatment triggers a biological collagen response, the skin-firming results typically persist for 6 to 12 months. Individual results vary based on age, skin quality, and lifestyle factors; maintenance treatments may be recommended to sustain the effects.

Downtime is generally minimal, though you may experience slight swelling, redness, or minor bruising at the insertion sites. For the first 48 hours, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and applying ice if needed. For two weeks post-treatment, it is important to avoid facial massages, saunas, and high-intensity skin treatments like laser or needling to allow the threads to settle.

As with any clinical procedure, there are inherent risks. Common side effects include temporary bruising, swelling, and tenderness. Less common risks include minor dimpling of the skin or infection at the entry site, which will be discussed in detail during your mandatory consultation. This treatment is not suitable for everyone, including those with certain medical conditions or active skin infections.
